The Mindful Writer Group meets on:
Fridays at 9:30am PST
The Mindful Writers Group differs from the other groups in two important ways.
First - it is an hour in length.
Second - instead of an introductory dharma talk, this group opens with a 10 minute guided meditation and then transitions immediately into a 45 minute writing session.
At 10:30, we can talk about what we're working on, network, and encourage each other to keep going (or, if you're on a roll, you can just log off and keep writing).
Things to know:
These are not critique groups.
We bring projects in progress or journals to let our thoughts flow.
While we don't read our work out loud in the groups, participants are encouraged to support each other outside of our weekly sits.
You don't need to have any experience meditating. All religions are welcome. We simply practice mindfulness as a way to focus our minds before writing.
Meet The Instructor
April Dávila has been practicing meditation since 2002. She is currently in the final stages of a Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program, studying under Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach. She received her masters degree in writing from USC in 2010 and her debut novel, "142 Ostriches," was published in the spring of 2020 to excellent reviews.
